The “Here And Now” is a very difficult place to be in for many in early recovery from substance abuse. So often when I talk with guy’s that come into treatment one of the biggest things they struggle with is staying in the moment, in the here and now. When we talk one on one guy’s share with with me that they are living in past or always thinking of the future.
The anxiety this creates is overwhelming, it takes a lot out of the recovery process and keeps a person from moving forward. I am reminded that nothing has ever happened in the past and nothing will ever happen in the future, it can only happen in the here and now. If we are to move forward we surrender to the moment. Living in the past or the future will rob us of any gratitude we might have.
